T O P I C R E V I E WayujegegdeletedDoux RêveNeither! haha.I can see how squares can be difficult (I have lots of them) and they are usually more internal - as you said - than external. But they can be worked with.Oppositions are trickier because they usually involve other people, so you may keep attracting the same type of obstacles that are not apparently dependent on you (but they represent an internal "split"). It can be very frustrating, because when you express one planet's energy, the other planet's energy tends to be repressed or expressed by someone else. It can be hard to reconcile the two and that's why people with oppositions tend to do a lot of projecting and attract their shadow very easily. But, to be honest, I don't think there's that much of a difference between a square and an opposition in the end. Both aspects point to tension between energies and a need for resolution of psychic conflicts. It's just that their manifestations are slightly different.I would say that the square is generally more potent and problematic, though. It tends to be very intense and hard to deal with, like an internal feeling discomfort or "war".So if I had to choose, I'd say oppositions.Edit: no, actually no. I'd rather have squares involving outer planets and oppositions between personal planets. Prior to discovering astrology, I would agree with the lot of you: Never in balance with one self, constantly on a "pendulum". However, after discovering astrology I find myself understanding how to nurture others in order to extract what I need from them (Capricorn catch phrase, "I use"). By pulling what I need from people in the 7th house to my 1st, I get what I want, they get what they want-- Or rather, what I project what they want. (emotional nurturing in exchange for gifts). Also, I end up getting a lot of e-gifts from this process now. Facebook Starbucks gift cards are usually the common form of repayment. Again, prior to discovering astrology I was in constant imbalance, flaming at people. Now, if I find that people don't agree with me, I follow the process and order (Capricorn stellium first house, Saturn/Uranus/Neptune) and then move on, as part of the process (or because that's the disappating nature of the 12th house, whatever). Also, I find myself using the phrase "whatever" now (12th house) without feeling like I'm doing myself an imperfect disservice (Moon Virgo 8th). I could care less what people generally think of me now, as by listening to what most people have to say (generally negative things, just look at any Youtube video's comments an all you'll see is flaming, trolling), I wouldn't be successful in life. But I think I'd rather go with the oppositions. My chart is flipped and I have quite some mutable, so it's natural for me to try and find a way to please both. I do get into a lot of situations where I feel like I have to choose or constantly swing back and forth, but it makes the problem more obvious for me. It normally does push me to solve those inner conflicts too - or at least find a way to deal with them. GemNymphSquares. In my experience they are easier to cope with and channel constructively. I think a lot of my self-awareness is from the challenges of my Sun-Pluto, Sun-Moon, Mercury-ASC and Moon-Mercury squares.Oppositions are exhausting. I've got plenty of both in my chart, but my natal oppositions seem to never really develop--just see-saw back and forth. k e p h x i quote:Originally posted by CatMote:id rather have squares.every trial you overcome makes you a stronger and better person. It depends on the bodies involved, at least for me, to be honest. For instance, if they had a square from Aquarius to my Taurus Moon - I'm good with that. But, if they have the square from Leo to my Taurus Moon, I'm not to keen on. If they have Pluto square my Sun (Capricorn), that's fine, if they have Mercury square my Sun (Libra) I'm fine, but from Aries, not fine. Oppositions require cooperation... squares require negotiation... as stated here by others. An opposition only works when both energies meet and blend or balance, squares only work when at least one person agrees to compromise, and at least one of the two are determined to overcome that hurdle. I can handle interacting with most my Solar oppositions. But, that's because the solar opposite ruler is strong in my chart. It doesn't take so much to balance those connections. It depends on different things going on in each chart how well you can grow or benefit from those harsh aspects... and, it depends on whether or not it is worth all that effort that those relationships usually call for as well. I think I'm becoming known as the one here with the weird square obsession. lol Oppositions to me are not such a problem, not at all... squares are interesting to me, and I find it hard to view them the way the majority would describe them. It's not that I disagree that they are essentially difficult aspects to have in any chart, but that they contain the greatest potential to achieve more, to evolve more... I guess... squares are like gifts with too much wrapping and tape on them... you gotta fight with them a bit before you get the prize inside. I like looking at them this way. That doesn't mean that gift is what a person will want or expect... they may be very ungrateful for it at first, but somehow those are the gifts that end up being the most useful or valuable down the line, even if we don't immediately see that result. ^^; In fact, the worst aspect, the one I prefer the least, or maybe even dislike the most - are Sun conjunctions... at least in synastry. So much depends on the planets involved.I've got a fixed T-square in cardinal houses plus another opposition and another square. I can't say that I really feel any difference between the two types of aspects, perhaps because of the T-square. Both types of aspects give energy to any trines and sextiles elsewhere in your chart. Both types get easier to handle with time (age and practice). But perhaps the squares have the advantage in progressions? I've never gotten into doing astrological progressions, but wouldn't the squares eventually progress to a trine sooner than an opposition would?Jessica2407 quote:Originally posted by StarlightSmileSupreme:I just want oppositions with sextiles and trines to the planets doing the opposing Ditto
